“I can’t say I have a particular focus area. I’m hoping to build a broad set of skills to help me become an effective attorney in any field.”
Why did you decide to go to law school?
“I have always wanted to have a positive impact on my community. When I taught high school, I often found myself frustrated that I couldn’t do more for my students. It seemed many of their problems could only be remedied through our legal system. I hoped that a J.D. would prepare me to think critically, solve problems effectively, and make a big difference in people’s lives.”
Why did you decide to pursue this position specifically with Potter Burnett Law?
“The attorneys here at Potter Burnett law are renowned for producing great results for their clients. I knew working alongside the attorneys and staff would be an amazing learning experience while giving me the chance to get our clients the justice they deserve.”
Describe a typical day on the job:
“I analyze medical records, draft pleadings, do legal research, and generally try to be helpful to the attorneys and staff in any way I can.”
What is the most rewarding thing about your job so far?
“Our clients have often suffered under terrible and unfortunate circumstances. Being part of a team that’s so committed to helping our clients get the help that they deserve is really rewarding.”
Are you involved in any clubs or projects outside of work?
“I help with Teen Court and work as a youth mentor in Baltimore but am taking a small break from that to work at Potter Burnett Law and keep up with my classes. I also serve on the executive board of the Maryland Public Interest Law Project which raises funds to provide grants to law students working in unpaid public service-oriented summer internships. Before law school, I taught chemistry, physics, and American history in North Carolina. I was Beginning Teacher of the Year there and coached basketball, track, and drove the school bus for extracurricular events.”
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
“I love exploring new places in Baltimore, which is where I currently live. There are great running and biking trails throughout the beautiful parks all around the city. I have also been training for and will be participating in the Baltimore half-marathon on October 19th, 2019.”
