Introducing Potter Burnett Law’s Newest Attorney

|

The Potter Burnett Law Pride welcomes John Costello to their renowned team as a Litigation Associate. In this role, he will be representing clients who are involved in personal injury cases.

Learn more about John, his background, and his passion for law by reading our Q&A below.

Where are you from?
Silver Spring, Maryland.

Attorney

Where did you attend college, and then law school?
I graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications in 2004 and later received my J.D. from American University Washington College of Law in 2010.

Where did you work prior to joining the Potter Burnett Law Pride?
Before joining Potter Burnett Law, I worked at a civil litigation firm for several years and previously was an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney Office for five years.

When did you first become interested in the legal field?
I became interested in the legal field early on in my life as both my father and grandfather were attorneys. From there, I focused on pursuing a career as a personal injury lawyer because it is an opportunity to help people in need.

How did you hear about Potter Burnett Law?
I first heard about Potter Burnett Law from a fellow attorney who spoke highly of the firm and later worked on a motor tort case with Potter Burnett Law’s own Debbie Potter.

Why did you want to work for Potter Burnett Law?
I wanted to work with Potter Burnett Law because of their reputation for providing excellent representation on behalf of their clients. The attorneys clearly know what they are doing and do a great job by their clients. Though I am new, it seems obvious that the firm prioritizes professional development as an attorney and as a person, which is important to me.

Are you involved in any professional organizations that are aligned with your career field?
I am a member of the Maryland Association for Justice, the Montgomery County Bar Association, the Prince George’s County Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the District of Columbia Bar Association.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
When I am not working, I enjoy being active, watching and playing sports, and spending time with my wife. Our families live in the area and we spend a lot of time with them (or did before COVID-19 anyway). I am a big fan of Washington sports teams, particularly the Washington Football Team.
